Unit 1: Body Systems

Big Idea: multicellular organisms have organ systems that enable them to survive and interact within their environment. Looking at the digestive, musculo-skeletal, respiratory, and circulatory systems and how each does its own job to keep the body working.

Unit 2: Solutions and Solubility

Big Idea: solutions are homogeneous. Investigating what a solution is, how solutes dissolve into solvents, and what changes how much of a solute can dissolve.

Big Idea: machines are devices that transfer force and energy. Investigating each of the six simple machines and how they change force, comparing machines people build with machines found in nature, and understanding power as the rate energy is transferred.

Unit 4: Rocks and Earth Materials

Big Idea: earth materials change as they move through the rock cycle and can be used as natural resources. Investigating how rocks slowly change form over time and identifying the earth materials found locally.

Unit 5: First Peoples Knowledge and Sustainability

Big Idea: earth materials change as they move through the rock cycle and can be used as natural resources — and how we act as stewards of our environment. Learning First Peoples concepts of interconnectedness, evaluating sustainable practices around BC's resources, and learning First Peoples knowledge of sustainable practices.
